Paris, France
Paris - Sights and Attractions of Paris One of the favorite city destinations in Western Europe noted for its romantic appeal is Paris. Ideally situated along the banks of the river Seine, Paris short stays are primarily taken by couples wanting a romantic weekend. There is so much to see and do that often only the main tourist attractions can be fitted in. This city is also equally well known for its Gothic architecture and markets. It has much to offer visitors who adore culture, even if it is only for a long weekend. Traveling through the city of Paris can be very enjoyable - the Metro underground system is easy to understand, efficient and reaches everywhere even the most enthusiastic tourist would want to visit. It wouldn't be possible to visit this city without a trip to the top of the famous steel structure known as the Eiffel Tower. There are only a few places in the city where it isn't visible. Illuminated in the evening, it is one of the most beautiful sights in the entire city. It is possible to take organized tours which tell the story of the Tower and the history of France. If you want to lighten your load of traveler's checks while in Paris, then an essential part of your trip must be a trip down the Champs Elysees. With shops, cafes, and restaurants littered along the wide Paris pavements, it is a ‘must see' for every visitor. This is considered a more exclusive and busy area of the city. Top class hotels are found here. Although if you want to stay at a more reasonably priced hotel, they are available outside of the city center. If you are an art lover you will enjoy the Louvre, a truly amazing museum. With over 300,000 wonderful artistic works, you simply cannot see all of it in one day. If you are an art lover then you could spend your whole short stay in Paris inside. Many of the world's art collections are housed here, which includes the renowned ‘Mona Lisa'. Paris has always been a magnetic destination for artists; painters like Monet and Picasso spent many years here and a large number of their art works can be seen in Paris today. Paris is also the home of the equally famous Arc de Triomphe which Napoleon had constructed in the early part of the 19th century. Engraved with the names of generals that commanded his troops, it has become a popular photo spot for tourists visiting Paris. Although not generally well known, the Arc had an observatory installed after it was constructed to provide views of neighboring areas. It stands in the place where the city's main avenues begin including the Champs Elysees. There are many varieties of sights and attractions to visit in Paris, too many to list them all here. But these should certainly not to be missed, because many offer regular guided tours, some at little or no charge at all. A short stay in Paris will definitely be a busy one, even if only a few sights are visited. You will probably need a full week in Paris to view the main galleries, visit medieval castles and explore it's fabulous gothic churches. |
